The Buckhead Council of Neighborhoods was created in July 2008 to provide a unified voice for Buckhead neighborhoods and their residents to address     areas of mutual concern and opportunity.  The Council provides a forum for sharing information communitywide across NPU lines; for the discussion of issues affecting neighborhoods and collaboration on solutions; and for communication with government officials.

 

BCN Accomplishments:

 

-       Organized our Buckhead Neighborhoods in a Roundtable Format, facilitated by the BCN chairman

-       Successfully advocated for a Zone 2 (APD) Community Prosecutor for the Buckhead area as well as funding from the Fulton County Commission

-       Catalyst for ensuring the completion the Georgia 400 ramps to I-85; identified issue, focused debate via petition and advocacy

-       First group to ask for an investigation (Fulton DA) into APS cheating scandal

-       First to call for Buckhead-centric State Senate District and advocated before GA Reapportionment Committee at public hearings

-       Protected Paces Battle Neighborhood from encroachment by GA DOT project by advocating before Atlanta City Council, Cobb County DOT, and GA DOT Commissioner

-       Petitioned successfully for the restriping of Northside Drive and the removal of the reversible center suicide lane

-       Instrumental in working with and encouraging the reorganization of the Peachtree Heights West neighborhood in NPU-B and the organization of the Brandon neighborhood in NPU-C

-       Organized first campaign to address Atlanta Watershed Department’s billing errors and customer service problems

-       Held meetings with the security committees of various neighborhoods to share information regarding criminal activity

-       Hosted eight of the nine Atlanta School Board members at BCN meeting to discuss the status of Dr. Hall’s contract; the ramifications of the 5-4 Board split and potential litigation between board members; requested they also focus on the proposed site of the new high school; and the planning for the organizational restructuring of Sutton Middle School(s)

-       BCN directors visited the GA Capitol in 2011 for 1st annual luncheon to meet with our elected officials on various topics

-       The BCN co-hosted the largest mayoral candidate forum in the city during the 2009 election cycle

-       Hosted many interactive educational meetings over the last three years with influential government officials (elected and unelected), as well as leaders of fellow non-profit organizations

-       Closely followed the creation, improvement and management of Buckhead parks and has encouraged participation in parks-related events and projects.
